Lady Zombie's Fashion Inspirations #1

Infernal greetings my sexxxy demons, friends and family!

Fashion influence is everywhere we look, and so much of modern style is derived from bygone days. A lot of people often ask me where I shop, where I got the ideas for my looks, etc., so I have decided to share a little with you! Once a week (or whenever I remember to do this, lol) I'll post a note that contains photos of some of my fashion inspirations.

For the first installment, I'd like to discuss some of my major influences. Those who know me best know that I never stick within a specific genre of attire. Who want to limit themselves to JUST Goth? JUST Fetish? JUST Urban? Can't I have box braids and extensions one day, my curly black mane on this night, and cyber locks another? Of course I can. Anyone can! I love to indulge myself in a creative blend of ALL the styles I enjoy.

My closet is definitely a corporate drone's nightmare and a drag queen's heaven.

I often find myself drawing upon the various styles of: Marilyn Manson, Dita Von Teese, Bettie Page, Gwen Stefani, Shirley Manson, Siouxsie Sioux, Madonna, Stevie Nicks, Lita Ford, many more celebrities and MOST of all... the NYC Subculture! The underground is where I found the courage to be creative and experimental. In all of YOU is where I first learned to say, "Let 'em stare!" - and ENJOY the shock value and edgy confidence.

 I'd like to first showcase Madonna, specifically during the 80s, when bold makeup, elaborate hair and pounds of heavy accessories were glorified. Yes, I confess, I still think this was one of the best times for clothes! And I am not talking about shoulder pads (armor is one thing, but unnecessary padding... no) and men with bangs (I do love long hair on men - but no bangs, please). Over the decades of her career, Madonna has changed looks more often than I can count, and she always seems to do it so well - but I loved her style most of all in the beginning. Clunky bracelets, heavy chains, dark red lipstick, smouldering eyes... YES - I do this look ALL the time! She puts her sexuality on a pedestal, drips confidence, and her fashion sense reflects that clearly.

I would also like to make mention of someone from the NYC subculture whose outrageous makeup and styles have been an inspiration to MANY of us since the Limelight club was in its prime: Miss Venus Pain. Known best for her wild stage shows and hat/hair/makeup designs, Venus originated many of the styles now common place in our community. A black light Goddess, she is able to incorporate any electric color and fabric into a Club Kid's fantasy! Many of her looks are done from scratch, and I strive to be as unique and capable as she is one day. We owe her a lot - she paved the way for us! Thank you, Miss Pain - we love you and appreciate your contributions!

I'd like to wrap up by touching on a designer that I am completely infatuated with currently - and most of you share the same sick obsession. IRON FIST CLOTHING! Well, not all their clothes so much as - say it with me now - their SHOES! Specifically, the line of monster inspired platform heels they have out now. I own the Wolfbeaters and the Zombie Stompers (as well as the turquoise leopard print heels, but those were from a different series). They are perfect for any edgy, horror loving diva or rockabilly fashionista! I vote these shoes a MUST HAVE - however, they aren't terribly comfortable. If you don't mind some aches and pains, it's completely worth it.

A Poem by: Lady Zombie

Like a cancer out of remission, there you are again, rearing your ugly hear and shouting obscenities, and same as before, I laugh and shrug you off, because you have no effect on me. In fact, you do. I pity you.

I pity the miles you will always walk alone, smoldering in your own hatred, wasting years of your life with bitterness stuck between your teeth, seething in self-loathing. An endless cycle of problems you create for yourself, breeding them out of your own cunt, straddling and fucking a huge smorgasbord of bad ideas, left to wallow in the dust of your own destruction.

You are simply the mosquito bite itch that annoys until scratched bloody, only to scab and heal, fall away, until the next time. If anything, I certainly tire of you. Those closest to me heave great sighs of dismay at your very presence, at the mention of your name, at the sound of your voice… a cancer to us all.

Years should heal, but in your own malicious intent, your pain grows, your anger grows, and one day you might look up and see the truth… that life has gone on without you. There is such beauty, bounty and greatness in this life, and I only hope that you shove your hanging eyeballs back into their bleeding sockets to seek out and find your own, where perhaps you will not be discarded like so much rotten fruit.

LOST and FOUND

It's amazing how the past several years of my life, and the lives of so many of my friends, were so greatly affected by LOST - the ABC show that proves TV doesn't always have to rot your brain. And now, it's time to say goodbye.

This past Sunday, May 23rd, 2010, Ali and I threw a LOST: Series Finale party at our home in New York City.

In attendance were some of the greatest LOST junkies I know: Gary, Heka, JM Draven, David M., and LaMorta. Also, two recent inductees into the circle: Dave and Tempest. The nine of us were prepared to indulge in an evening of decadence and bad ass TV drama.

"Baby, I am tied to a tree in a jungle of mystery, and I just got tortured by a damn spinal surgeon and a genuine Iraqi. Of course I'm serious." - Sawyer

Our celebration included (but was not limited to): "special" brownies, ice cream, KFC, Vodka, Rum, Blue Hawaiians, Strawberry Daiquiris, frozen grapes, many yummy varieties of beer, and a late addition of Chinese food. Think it sounds unhealthy?

Draven made a point to bring his gorgeous, pro-cam to capture many of our pained and joyous expressions throughout the captivating two and a half hour LOST finale (all photos in this Blog are credited to Draven). Heka captured much of it on camcorder, and when those video clips become available, I'll be posting them here as well.

"You Are Everybody" Drive Shaft

RANDOM "LOST" SITUATION THAT WILL NEVER BE EXPLAINED #1: The Dharma Shark. Okay, so you give it to us once when the raft blows up, and then only once more at the opening of the first episode of the last season. COME ON!!! Were the Dharma Initiative testing on sharks? Why did it have a Dharma stamp on it's ass? I genuinely wanted to know. But now, never. Argh.

Having a house full of fanatics of any kind is usually eventful (if not dangerous), but I think we were all too wrapped up in the drama, the romance, the time-traveling and the random supernatural occurrences on the show that the only trouble we could cause were our own individual headaches.

RANDOM "LOST" SITUATION THAT WILL NEVER BE EXPLAINED #2: The Egyptian Temple. The hieroglyphics that appeared when Locke stopped typing in the numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42) and pushing the damn button in the hatch. The glyph of Anubis summoning The Black Smoke. How did any of this really fit in?

Trying to process all the twists and turns throughout the six seasons of LOST wasn't easy (ever), but it was incredibly interesting, fascinating, thought provoking and heartbreaking.

When Charlie drowned, we were devastated. When the freighter exploded, and Sun screamed Jin's name in horror, we cringed from her agony. When we learned about Jacob and the MiB, we howled in confusion. When Hurley finally remembered Libby, we cheered for him. They were apart of us, somehow.

Then, of course, there were The Others... and how can we forget... The Other Others...

Most of us were sad that Mr. Eko didn't make an appearance in the finale. However, Vincent the Golden Retriever, played a pivotal role in the closing scene. So, they went for the dog and not the man. Okay. Fine. I'll except that.

We did discuss that we all assumed, in the beginning, that Walt had some sort of telekinetic ability, or astral projection of some kind. I mean, didn't YOU think that he summoned the original Polar Bears out of that Spanish comic book? I did. We don't hear about the Polar Bear cages until MUCH later. I understand why he was written out of the story. I mean, a ten year old should not grow to be 6 feet tall in the 90 days they were "on the island."

RANDOM "LOST" SITUATION THAT WILL NEVER BE EXPLAINED #3: Ben obviously had the ability to summon The Black Smoke earlier in the series. Why did he lose this ability, and when? How did he have it in the first place? And, again... that room in his closet was covered in hieroglyphics. Que sera, sera.

All in all, I think it was awesome that Desmond decided to use his "powers" to show his island friends that they were now existing in a purgatory of sorts, dealing with some of the issues they had faced in life, and ultimately reuniting with those they loved best and experienced the most with.

In closing, I will leave you with a RANDOM "LOST" FACT: If you weren't aware, the sound that The Black Smoke makes is the same sound as a NYC Taxi Cab printing a receipt (this was even admitted by the producers on a Special Features disc from one of the LOST box sets). Heka proved this by recording the sound in a Taxi the day after the LOST finale.
